The crash happened Tuesday when a BMW crashed into an SUV waiting to turn at the intersection of Blake Lane and Five Oaks Road in Oakton. The sedan ricocheted off and careened into three teenage girls walking on the sidewalk near Oakton High School. Responders rushed them to the hospital, but two of them later died. The driver and a passenger in the BMW were also injured, but not severely, authorities said. Fairfax County police officers are still investigating the crash but haven't said if officials will file any charges in the case.
The Fairfax County community isn't waiting on answers. They want to provide help now. Hundreds have stepped up to offer their support. A GoFundMe campaign to pay for one of the girl's funerals costs has raised $91,000 from 1,600 donors. The campaign's original goal was $70,000.
Another GoFundMe campaign launched on Thursday, June 9, has raised nearly $43,000 of its goal of $75,000. More than 725 people have donated that fundraiser.

The father of the survivor works as a prep cook at Our Mom Eugenia, a Greek restaurant in Falls Creek. The staff there has used its platform to help raise money for the GoFundMe campaign well. The restaurant posted about it on Facebook and updated its followers on the situation and where they can donate to help.
A horrific accident happened yesterday in Fairfax that affected one of the members of the Our Mom Eugenia family. Three teenage girls — the daugher and the niece of our prep cook Lilia Martinez Nolasco, and their best friend — were walking on the sidewalk happy to be out of high school early on a beautiful summer's day when they were suddenly struck by a speeding car. The niece and best friend died from their injuries, while Lilia's daughter is still at Inova Children's Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Lilia's son has set up a GoFundMe page to help their family in this time of need. We ask that you help them by contributing to this fundraiser and by spreading the word. Our deepest condolences go out to the families who lost their loved ones. We wish Lilia's daughter a speedy recovery.
Oakton High School finished its school year on Friday, June 10. The last days of class, usually an exciting time for students, were difficult following the crash. The school had grief counselors on hand to help students and teachers struggling with the loss.
The outpouring of support and care has been some salve for a community still unsure how to process their pain. But Oakton High thanked those who've helped out during this week.
The site of the crash is now a makeshift memorial for the girls. People have left flowers and notes for them, and parents in that area told The Washington Post that they hope it will lead to changes for that area, which they say has a problem with car speeding.
